Project Overview & The E-Commerce Challenge

The client’s goal was to own a scalable online website to support in-person vendor market and off-the-shelf sales. They initially explored platforms like Shopify but quickly realized it presented two major roadblocks. First, the cost was too high. Secondly, the existing off-the-shelf solutions were too complex and confusing for the owners to manage daily inventory, customer data, and other business logistics efficiently.

Core Challenge: Create an e-commerce platform that simplifies the complexities of managing online orders while maintaining a conversion-focused user experience.
Solution: Design and deploy a custom e-commerce engine featuring native subscription logic and fully integrated operational management tools.
Outcome: A scalable platform that drives predictable recurring revenue and minimizes administrative overhead.

Custom Shopping Cart and Subscription Logic

To support the wide range of product offerings by Perk n Pour Coffee, we built a custom shopping cart and coffee ordering system from the ground up. This system allows customers to customize grind size, bean type, roast type, and quantity for one time purchases and subscriptions. For customers enrolled in the subscriptions program, a simple to use customer dashboard allows them to easily manage, pause, or adjust their subscriptions at any time. This flexibility maximizes customer retention and dramatically reduces administrative time spent on order modifications.

Custom Stripe Integration for Predictable Revenue

The backbone of the financial operation is a custom, secure Stripe integration. This setup was optimized for subscription purchasing and managing recurring revenue, enabling:

Secure storage and retrieval of payment methods.
Automated billing cycles and failed payment recovery logic.
Seamless application of discounts and coupon purchasing against recurring charges.

Logistics, Management, and Conversion Tools

A custom module calculates precise, weight-based shipping rates in real-time during customer checkouts, eliminating over or under-charging and enhancing customer trust.

Developed dedicated back-end interfaces for staff to efficiently track, manage, and fulfill all orders, subscriptions, and deliveries, reducing manual processing time.

Coupon Management

A flexible system allows the client to quickly deploy and track promotional campaigns, driving first-time purchases, customer loyalty, and recurring purchases.

Newsletter Management

We integrated a simple to use newsletter management system that simplifies communication for product launches and re-engagement campaigns, building a crucial long-term marketing asset over time.

Design Strategy and Prototyping

To ensure the final product aligned perfectly with the client's vision and brand goals, we initiated the project by delivering a clear visual direction. We developed two distinct website prototypes featuring different layouts, imagery, and navigational structures. This crucial step allowed the owners to visualize and test varying approaches to site flow, overall branding colors, and how text content would appear before a single line of production code was written. This collaborative process ensured alignment on aesthetics and user experience from the earliest stage.
